This is a mix of 2 cubes of Old Man Pine and one of Gum.
Pine is a popular wood because it is so quick to catch flame, burns efficiently and gives out a high heat. A soft wood, that gives off intense heat but is a quick burner, meaning you will have to pay more attention to your fire and load it more often. The attributes of Pine make it an ideal mixing wood.
Macrocarpa is a medium density wood which means it is still relatively easy to catch a flame, and can still be burnt by itself. It is slower burning than pine and other softwoods meaning it will last longer, and ultimately release more heat into the room over the duration of the burn.
Macrocarpa mixes well with pine to give an easily maintained, hot, easy to burn mix. It can also be used to start the fire and create a good base for a hardwood such as Blue Gum delivering a very hot, long lasting fire. It can even be burnt on its own making it one of the most versatile woods on the market.
Gum is the one of the hardwoods that we offer. Being high density means that each piece of wood has more energy waiting to be released when compared to soft or medium woods. It burns for longer, and it burns hotter, and although more expensive per load, will last much longer, and works out to be very cost effective in the long run.
Because of its high density, it requires a very good base to enable it to burn efficiently and therefore can’t be burnt to its full potential by itself. Mix with soft woods such as Old man Pine, or medium woods such as Macrocarpa to get a solid base fire up to heat. Then stoke with the Gum to get a consistent, long burning fire. Because of its char-coaling attributes it can be used over-night to keep producing heat.
