Manuka

Manuka firewood takes the longest to get from the forest to your door. It starts by falling the trees a minimum of 12 months before we start processing. Once we are processing it we sell it for the following winter, so it is usually 2 years old before it is burnt. Manuka does not need to be shed stored to dry, as it dries as a whole tree. I would only recommend putting it under cover for a month so the rain wetness can actually dry off.

Old Man Pine, Macrocarpa and Gum

These processes are pretty much the same with the only difference in the shed stored drying time.

We start by falling and right away ringing up the tree so the rings can start to season/dry. We split it about 5 months later. After this step, the split firewood is put into big piles to dry in the summer months. However, split firewood in a big pile only dries out so much and needs to be put in a shed to finish drying. Old Man Pine and Mac for about 3 months and Gum for at least 4 -6 months.

Quantity measurements:

All fire wood is sold as a thrown cubic metre, which looks like this m3.  The way you measure a trailer or any box that holds wood is length X width X height= m3.  The firewood truck that I use for delivery has 2 three cube bins and a 4 cube bin, this way I can fill any firewood order to suit. The old way of measuring volume was a CORD.  This measurement is equal to 3 .3 cubes.

Deliveries co-ordination:

Usually a text is sent the night before with the approximate time FRAME, not exact time!!! If that approximate time doesn’t work then you have other options like:  putting a tarp down or something that marks the spot where you would like it dropped if we can get there.

The access needs to be on concrete, gravel or tar seal – not dirt as the truck will get stuck or worse sink in a hole etc. The driver will make a decision at the time whether or not he can make it to the spot or not.

Truck Measurements for clearances:  2.3 metres wide and 2.4 metres high, the turning radius is similar to a Hilux. We take no responsibility for broken trees/shrubs/plants etc.
